Back in 80’s, computers to be used, dominated by the Unix operating system. It was just the good-old Command Line Interface or CLI mode which was available.Time changed, came 1995, Microsoft presened Windows 95 and BOOM! It changed the way forever for generations for using computers.Instead of that boring , dark and dull, black and white, CLI, we became addicted to new, easy to use than ever, nice colored,menu-drive GUI or Graphic User Interface for forever. Not a bad thing in anyways.Dont get me wrong alrite :-).

We have Windows now almost everywhere. More than 90% of word’s desktops and nearly the same number of notebooks are dominated by the Windows operating system. By the time, there are some other players too in the market which boast of the same capability which Windows has but lets not get into that arguement over here now. There are no-doubt millions of users who like GUI interface than anything else but still there are some who still like to type and run their most favorite applications and still like and prefer CLI more than anything else. For all of those who run Windows but do not like to navigate so many menus of it to get to their desired applications, here are 156 most used applications with their executable names which one can use to type in Run and exexcute them. I found it a really nice way to work with Windows, so sharing with you all.Have a look:

Music review, Ahista Ahista,Krrish,K.A.N.K…. June 18, 2006

After quiet a while there is some good music out there in movies.Normally its not very common that motion picture tracks are upto that quality in the terms of melody, lyrics. But recently,Fanaa proved to be a very good album. There are so many movie tracks which get released every year but very few are able to grab some sort of attention. Here are 3 which I liked. My take on all these is:

Ahista Ahista
Being a Punjabi, Sufi music is something which I always liked and loved. Its so much difficult to sing Sufiana music.Oh I am sorry Sufi is an Urdu word.Sufiana music is the music which is devoted to God.So its so much deep from every aspect of music,be it singing, music, lyrics.Ahista Ahista’s music director ,Himesh Reshamiya tried to create the same sort of music with this motion picture. No harm in being creative, but being too much confident on yourself sometimes fails to create that impact which it has.Sufiana music is among the toughest forms of music and its not that easy to replicate it.There are 14 total tracks which includes remixes of some originals(nothing speical as its a Himesh’s movie and he constantly forgets that he is not creating a POP album but music for a movie) and 8 original tracks.Despite trying too hard, the music fails to create that flavor which its trying to imitate.Title track,Ahista Ahista is a good one but its not that song which you can play again and again in your player.Allah Kare is again trying to bring the Sufiana taste in it but sadly couldnt even catch the flavor of it.Himesh has put a Qwaalli too in the music.I am not sure what he was thinking when he was recording it coz  I never could find that it was a Qawaalli till the end of the song.It was when I read the title of the song, than I came to know that I am supposed to belive that its a Qawaalli.

There are some other songs in the movie too but I guess I am not able to comment anymore on any song from this movie.Himesh is a good artist but he must remember this that there is no one in this world who is Mr/Ms Knows-it-all so surely he is not the one too.Its good to be creative and being in an industry like this, one has to be,but still there are some limits to everything.Even too much sugar tastes bitter.Remixing is not the solution of making every track a hit track and so is not to sing every song by yourself, specially if you are a music director not a SINGER!I thought for so long that I should add a few songs to my favorite list but I couldnt do that.Sorry Himesh, couldnt help it!

Krrish
After so long, music director Rajesh Roshan is back with his music in his home-production movie,Krrish,directed/produced by his brother Rakesh Roshan, starred by his nephew,Hrithik Roshan.Rajesh Roshan is not much seen in the other production houses so there is not much that comes out from his side but when it does,it surely makes the wait the worth.Krrish’s music is once again proving this point. There are total 7 tracks in the movie, including 2 mixes.Album is comprising of very soulful and melodious music.Lyrics are superb.Koi tumsa nahin is  the best song to dedicate for your loved ones.Great lyrics and excellent music score!Pyar ki ek kahani is again a soft number with the same ingredients, great lyrics and similar music.Main hu woh aasman is a purely romantic number.Dil na diya is a fast dance track.Once again knocking them all down who thought that Rajesh Roshan is not able to create dance tracks that well.Great song!I didnt like much Chori Chori Chupke much but I guess its not possible to please everyone, specially people like me ;-).In total,a must listen album!

Kabi Alvida Naa Kehna(K.A.N.K)
One of the most awaited movies of this year, home production of producer/director,Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’s mucic was released on the 16th of June.By looking the past record of karan’s movies, I must say that I had very high expectations from the music of this motion picture. But sadly,I am disappointed from what I have come across.Music of this movie by the trio,Shankar,Ehsaan & Loe.This trio is among the best musicians in the Hindi Film industry and have created waves with some of their past number like Dil Chahta Hai.But as I just said a while ago, sometimes trying to do something way too much different puts you away from the track.I guess the same has happened here too.Movie consists of 7 total tracks with 1 mix, 2 dance tracks and 3 “proper songs”. Title track is by Sonu Nigam.Sang beuatifully but somehow I couldnt connect myself with the song. Not bad but not good too.Mitwa is another track which I didnt want to listen after hearing once.Tumhi Dekho Na is a nice but IMHO a way-too-much-slow track. Then there are Rock and Roll and Where is party tonight, kind of hip-hop numbers but again,I didnt want to listen them after playing them once.”Farewell Trance” is theme music.Nice composition but I didnt find earth below my feet shattered when I heard it though. To sum up,the music of K.A.N.K is lagging far behind from the standards which both karan Johar and the trio of Shankar,Ehsan and Loe has set in their past. This was music, lets see what movie brings to us.Fingers crossed already!

My Blog journey…. June 17, 2006

There is always that one doesn’t know about something and than somehow he/she is introduced to it and he/she finds himself/herself completely hooked to it.  It happens to most of us on so many times.  Same happened with me too before I started even reading blogs, forget about writing my own.

I had heard about this concept called,Blogging for so long and so many times but I never bothered to check what exactly it was all about and what one has to do with it.  Ok you can call me whatever you like but that’s the truth.  So despite having an idea about this bloging concept,I still was an alien to it for quite a time.

Then, one fine day,Tom Kyte introduced his blog  in addition to AskTom.oracle.com.This blog was supposed to be at a place for him for sharing and discussing things/matters/experiences which were mostly non-technical and the content was way more light and cool as compared to AskTom.Well I started reading it and I even dnt know when I got completely hooked from it.  So much fine pieces of writing,so much to learn was there in it.  As Tom started his blog on Blogger and there were so many times when I wanted to post my comments too for his writings.  I wanted to contribute my thoughts wherever possible.  And I didn’t want to be an “anonymous“(no harm or bad thing to be one though), so I made an account on Blogger myself and also setup a blog named Aman’s Blog. I never thought that I would be writing one day in my blog too.  For me it was just a place to maintain a list of my favorite sites that I visit almost every day and my favorite blogs which I try not to miss reading on any single day.  So there was just one entry in my blog for about an year.  Then after a mental setback which shook me so deep inside,I thought to jolt down my inner feelings in the form of this blog.  I never wanted to make this blog specific to one particular thing/topic,that’s why I have mentioned that it will have anything that will be an eye-catcher for me.  So after almost an year,I started writing about things which I were coming across in my daily life.  Sometimes there is not any event, not anything specific that I write about but just there are just my thoughts,my inner feelings about topics which may be irrelevant to many but matters to me so much.  Now I have this blog up and running.  In addition to it,I have a replica blog on www.wordpress.com with the title, Aman’s Blog….ANYTHING goes here!.I shall continue to post on both of these blogs whenever I shall post anything.  You can read this same post here on WordPress blog.

So that’s how I started writing these blogs and I must say that I really liked the concept so much.  I hope I shall continue to write this not-so-good piece of literature in future too. My heartiest thanx to all of you who stop by and spend some moments to share my thoughts with me.

Blog Kidnapping…. June 12, 2006

Yesterday when I tried to read Doug Burns blog,I was shocked to see that the link didnt take me to his blog but to some other blog which had no entry in it and it of some unknown person.I tried to figure out for one minute what it was.Well I couldnt find out anything. Then on Tom Kyte’s blog,I found that Doug Burn’s blog was kidnapped.Needless to say that I was shocked to see that.Doug has shifted his blog to here and luckily for all of us,he took the backup of the entire earlier blog so his new blog has all the old enteries with the comments too.But it provoked a question,”What if the same happens to me?”.

In internet world, its not a big thing to happen. It happens and doesnt matter how much one tries, one have to accept that we have no apparent control over it.All we can do is to be take precautions and as we say in our Database world, take a backup of all the data which is important for us.That backup must be capable enough to put us back on the track in the case of the loss, failure. So what I do to make myself safe?As we all know,Blogger has no capability to “export” the blog.So I maintain a replica WordPress blog.It has all the enteries which I publish on my Blogger blog.Just in case,Blogger is not available or some problem occurs, you can catch a parallel blog of mine on WordPress.Next time,Tom founded a very nice utility,BlogCollector[Lite] which lets you publish your( and any other blog too) blog to a PDF file, which you can safe on your disk and use to re-create the blog just wish a cut-paste from it.Very nice, very much efficient.I did publish my blog’s pdf file just now.And I shall make it sure that I am gonna be regular in doing it from now.

Blogger has taken some steps to stop the spam. Now they have put a Word-Verification on the Publishing of the posts.A nice step to stop the robots and spammers but it breaks the editors.I use an editor about which I shall blog in future very soon which lets me write and publish my blogs very easily.Sadly, now I have to go to Blogger, complete the verification and then I can publish my blog. Not so much difficult thing to do,but for a lazy person like me,who likes as less moving pieces as possible, really not something very pleasent :-(.

On conclusing note, just this comes to mind, why do people do anything like this? What does it will give to anyone? If one is that much talented that they can break through all the securities of a website/blog/whatever than use this knowledge to help them company/people to be more efficient in their service.Destroying someone’s work is really not a very good example to prove one’s knowledge.

Secrets about Guys which Gals must know…. June 10, 2006

While stumbling upon internet once,I came across this. These are some hidden facts which gals dnt know about gals. There are alot of shades in guys and they can be equally complex if not more when compared with the gals.I found it really interesting so thought would share with you all.The source is not working anymore so I am putting up everything right here.Have a read:

¨      Guys don’t actually look after good-looking girls. They prefer neat and presentable girls.

¨      Guys hate flirts.

¨      A guy can like you for a minute, and then forget you afterwards.

¨      When a guy says he doesn’t understand you, it simply means you’re not thinking the way he is.

¨      “Are you doing something?” or “Have you eaten already?” are the first usual questions a guy asks on the phone just to get out from stammering.

¨      Guys may be flirting around all day but before they go to sleep, they always think about the girl they truly care about.

¨      When a guy really likes you, he’ll disregard all your bad characteristics.

¨      Guys go crazy over a girl’s smile.

¨      Guys will do anything just to get the girl’s attention.

¨      Guys hate it when you talk about your ex-boyfriend.

¨      When guys want to meet your parents. Let them.

¨      Guys want to tell you many things but they can’t. And they sure have one habit to gain courage and spirit to tell you many things and it is drinking!

¨      Guys cry!!!

¨      Don’t provoke(irritate) the guy to heat up. Believe me. He will.

¨      Guys can never dream and hope too much.

¨      Guys usually try hard to get the girl who has dumped them, and this makes it harder for them to accept their defeat.

¨      When you touch a guy’s heart, there’s no turning back.

¨      Giving a guy a hanging message like “You know what?!..uh…never mind!” would make him jump to a conclusion that is far from what you are thinking.

¨      Guys go crazy when girls touch their hands.

¨      Guys are good flatterers when courting but they usually stammer when they talk to a girl they really like.

¨      When a guy makes a prolonged “umm” or makes any excuses when you’re asking him to do you a favor, he’s actually saying that he doesn’t like you and he can’t lay down the card for you.

¨      When a girl says “no”, a guy hears it as “try again tomorrow.”

¨      You have to tell a guy what you really want before he gets the message clearly.

¨      Guys hate gays!

¨      Guys love their moms.

¨      A guy would sacrifice his money for lunch just to get you a couple of roses.

¨      A guy often thinks about the girl who likes him. But this doesn’t mean that the guy likes her.

¨      You can never understand him unless you listen to him.

¨      If a guy tells you he loves you once in a lifetime. He does.

¨      Beware. Guys can make gossips scatter through half of the face of the earth faster than girls can.

¨      Like Eve, girls are guys’ weaknesses.

¨      Guys are very open about themselves.

¨      It’s good to test a guy first before you believe him. But don’t let him wait that long.

¨      No guy is bad when he is courting.

¨      Guys hate it when their clothes get dirty. Even a small dot.

¨      Guys really admire girls that they like even if they’re not that much pretty.

¨      Your best friend, whom your boyfriend seeks help from about his problems with you may end up being admired by your boyfriend.

¨      If a guy tells you about his problems, he just needs someone to listen to him. You don’t need to give advice.

¨      A usual act that proves that the guy likes you is when he teases you.

¨      A guy finds ways to keep you off from linking with someone else.

¨      Guys love girls with brains more than girls in miniskirts.

¨      Guys try to find the stuffed toy a girl wants but would unluckily get the wrong one.

¨      Guys virtually brag about anything.

¨      Guys cannot keep secrets that girls tell them.

¨      Guys think too much.

¨      Guys’ fantasies are unlimited.

¨      Girls’ height doesn’t really matter to a guy but her weight does!

¨      Guys tend to get serious with their relationship and become too possessive. So watch out girls!!!

¨      When a girl makes the boy suffer during courtship, it would be hard for him to let go of that girl.

¨      It’s not easy for a guy to let go of his girlfriend after they broke up especially when they’ve been together for 3 years or more.

¨      You have to tell a guy what you really want before getting involved with that guy.

¨      A guy has to experience rejection, because if he’s too-good-never-been-busted, never been in love and hurt, he won’t be matured and grow up.

¨      When an unlikable circumstance comes, guys blame themselves a lot more than girls do. They could even hurt themselves physically.

¨      Guys have strong passion to change but have weak will power.

¨      Guys are tigers in their peer groups but become tamed pussycats with their girlfriends.

¨      When a guy pretends to be calm, check if he’s sweating. You’ll probably see that he is nervous.

¨      When a guy says he is going crazy about the girl. He really is.

¨      When a guy asks you to leave him alone, he’s just actually saying,”Please come and listen to me”

¨      Guys don’t really have final decisions.

¨      When a guy loves you, bring out the best in him.

¨      If a guy starts to talk seriously, listen to him.

¨      If a guy has been kept shut or silent, say something.

¨      Guys believe that there’s no such thing as love at first sight, but court the girls anyway and then realize at the end that he is wrong.

¨      Guys like femininity not feebleness.*

¨      Guys don’t like girls who punch harder than they do.

¨      A guy may instantly know if the girl likes him but can never be sure unless the girl tells him.

¨      A guy would waste his time over video games and basketball, the way a girl would do over her romance novels and make-ups.

¨      Guys love girls who can cook or bake.

¨      Guys like girls who are like their moms. No kidding!

¨      A guy has more problems than you can see with your naked eyes.

¨      A guy’s friend knows everything about him. Use this to your advantage.

¨      Don’t be a snob. Guys may easily give up on the first sign of rejection.

¨      Don’t be biased. Try loving a guy without prejudice and you’ll be surprised.

¨      Girls who bathe in their eau de perfumes do more repelling than attracting guys.

¨      Guys are more talkative than girls are especially when the topic is about girls.

¨      Guys don’t comprehend the statement “Get lost” too well.

¨      Guys really think that girls are strange and have unpredictable decisions but still love them more.

¨      When a guy gives a crooked or pretentious grin at your jokes, he finds them offending and he just tried to be polite.

¨      Guys don’t care about how shiny their shoes are unlike girls.

¨      Guys tend to generalize about girls but once they get to know them, they’ll realize they’re wrong.

¨      Any guy can handle his problems all by his own. He’s just too stubborn to deal with it.

¨      Guys find it so objectionable when a girl swears.

¨      Guys’ weakest point is at the knee.

¨      When a problem arises, a guy usually keeps himself cool but is already thinking of a way out.

¨      When a guy is conscious of his looks, it shows he is not good at fixing things.

¨      When a guy looks at you, either he’s amazed of you or he’s criticizing you.

¨      When you catch him cheating on you and he asks for a second chance, give it to him. But when you catch him again and he asks for another chance, ignore him.

¨      If a guy lets you go, he really loves you.

¨      If you have a boyfriend, and your boy best friend always glances at u and it obviously shows that he is jealous whenever you’re with your boyfriend, all I can say is your boy best friend loves you more than your boyfriend does.

¨      Guys learn from experience not from the romance books that girls read and take as their basis of experience.

¨      You can tell if a guy is really hurt or in pain when he cries in front of you!

¨      If a guy suddenly asks you for a date, ask him first why.

¨      When a guy says he can’t sleep if he doesn’t hear your voice even just for one night, hang up. He also tells that to another girl. He only flatters you and sometimes makes fun of you.

¨      You can truly say that a guy has good intentions if you see him praying sometimes.

¨      Guys seek for advice not from a guy but from a girl.

¨      Girls are allowed to touch boys’ things. Not their hair!

¨      If a guy says you’re beautiful, that guy likes you.

¨      Guys hate girls who overreact.

¨      Guys love you more than you love them if they are serious in your relationships.

Some of these are quiet true when applied in general, some are not holding much water too.Its not written by me either so I have no control over the language and thoughts which went into the creation of it.Its just for fun.So have fun and share it with others.Let me know how many of these you found correct?

FireFox with its extensions that I use…. June 8, 2006

When I started learning and using computers, as like all the newbies, I too started with Windows. Than it was the Internet which came into existence great invention which revolutionized the technology world. With the invention of Internet, there came the browsers with Netscape being the first one. With that there came “war of browsers” with Microsoft fighting with its browser, Internet Explorer with Netscape to grab the biggest bite. Needless to say, Microsoft did win and its Internet Explorer being the most popular browser.

IE did win the top spot but it always lacked in some of the most important aspects, with Security being on the top. With the enhancement of technology and with more and more techno savvy guys coming in and exploring more deeper layers,IE became the most favourite pathway for the hackers. There was an immediate need for something which could give a better option and if not replace, give a choice between Internet Explorer. Well, Firefox came just in time for that.

Firefox is the next generation web browser. Its much faster and much reliable than its competitors. With all of it features, Firefox comes with a unique ability to add Extensions to it. Extensions can be used to enhance the browser’s capabilities to the next level. There are a lot of extensions which are available from the Firefox extensions home-page. You can pick whichever you feel is useful for you.I have summed up the ones which I use and find useful. Hope you find them useful for yourself too. Have a look:

Lets you download either one, selected or all the links from the page  that you are viewing. Supports all the download managers too.

A modification of the Firefox download manager that changes its appearance and allows it to be opened in a separate window, a new tab, or the sidebar.

The Copy URL+ extension enables you to copy to the clipboard the current
document’s address along with additional information.

Adds a toggle button for single window mode so you can toggle between two settings. Also gives easy access to the new hidden Firefox Tab Browsing prefs.

Enables enhanced control for some aspects of tabbed browsing.

Looks up a user selected word in an online dictionary.

Scrolls the document smoothly when scrolling the mouse wheel.

Provides more options for the history management for sites visited.

Lets you load pages in IE with a single right-click, or mark certain sites to *always* load in IE. Useful for incompatible pages, or cross-browser testing

Crash Recovery automatically restores all opened pages after a crash happened. It is an “install and forget” extension which you will only notice right after the occasional crash.

SessionSaver restores your browser -exactly- as you left it, every startup, every time. Not even a crash will phase it.

New tabs retain the session history of the originating tab.

Select actions for various clicking events on a tab or the tab bar.

Brings focus to the last selected tab when closing the active tab. Or you can click on the active tab to get to the last active (tabflipping).

Google toolbar with yahoo.Take google where ever you go.

Yahoo toolbar for yahoo.Access Yahoo anywhere.

Lets you download all the links or images contained in a webpage and much more: you can refine your downloads by fully customizable criteria to get only what you really want.

The Furl Toolbar puts the full power of Furl into a custom Firefox extension.

Linky will increase your power to handle links.
Open/download/validate links and pictures in tabs or windows.

It is a collaborative surfing tool for browsing, reviewing and sharing great sites with like-minded people. This helps you find interesting webpages you wouldn’t think to search for.

CustomizeGoogle is a Firefox extension that enhance Google search results by adding extra information.

Fasterfox allows you to tweak many network and rendering settings such as simultaneous connections, pipelining, cache, DNS cache, and initial paint delay.

There are thousands of more extensions available at the official Extension Homepage. Choose from there according to your needs.

Note:

Please note that some of these extensions may not work with some older releases of Firefox and some will be de-supported in the next release which will be FireFox 2.0.You need to check it out for youself for the version of Firefox which you are currently using to find the compatibility. I have tried to find the most current versions for all the extensions for the latest release of FireFox “1.5.0.4”.

In an earlier blog , I told you about my friend Raman and Shuchi who got married. It was a love marriage and more over an inter-caste one.It was great to see that the couple stood with each other and made everything possible. They didnt let caste-creed come in between their love and fulfilled the promise that they gave to each other.
On this Sunday, we organzied the Reception party for them.It was organized at a very good hotel. It was great. With about 1000+ guests including all of the relatives, nears and dears of Raman, all of the friends it was a memorable night. We all had a great time and enjoyed the company of the friends, met some whom we couldnt meet in the recent times, thanx to our busy daily lives.Everything went so very well.We got back at about 2am,tired but with a feeling of satisfaction and with best wishes for the newly wed couple for the success and happiness in this new phase of life.

LogMeIn…. June 6, 2006

There are a couple of times when there is a need to remotely control the servers, machines or even home pcs too. There are a couple of options available with VNC,NetMeeting etc. etc. but they all comes with a price that one has to download, install and configure their respective binaries to complete the installation and finally make it to work.Well its not complicated but still there are issues with different binaries for different platforms and then their installation instructions and all that or its me being lazy :-).
For all these issues, here is one remote desktop assistant which requires nothing like above mentioned. Its LogMeIn, a complete web based, remote desktop control service with features including File Sharing,Backups and lots more. There are options to chose between Pro version or Free version. You can chose the former if you require all the features or stick with a Free version if you just need the remote desktop control. All you need to do is to create an account on the website and follow the instructions.Give it a try.Its really cool.
